  • The NHS will reduce chronic homelessness by 50%, by empowering local communities to deliver a combination of housing measures programs, responsive and preventative measures.
  • Approximately 25,000 Canadians experience homelessness on any given night.

  • The Government of Canada will invest $2.2 billion over 10 years to tackle homelessness through a redesigned and expanded federal homelessness program.

  • The federal homelessness program will be complemented by NHS initiatives, including the National Housing Co-Investment Fund and the Canada Housing Benefit.

  • In addition to the federal homelessness program, Veterans will benefit from other federal commitments that promote well-being and increase social infrastructure, which is supported by the vision of Veterans Affairs Canada’s Homeless Veteran Strategy.

  • Budget 2017 invested $4 million in a Veterans Emergency Fund that provides veterans in crisis with immediate and flexible financial support.
