The National Housing Strategy addresses needs across the entire housing continuum, including supporting affordable homeownership for Canadians.
CMHC already supports home ownership through its mortgage loan insurance and
securitization programs, which are 100% backed by the Government of Canada. Under
the NHS, the federal government, through CMHC, will improve access to homeownership opportunities for Canadians, including those who are considered “underserved,” through various new and existing programs and policies.
The Government of Canada has already made changes to tax laws to address issues of speculation in condominium markets, a primary factor in driving prices to record highs in
CMHC will also implement new measures over the next two years to detect and prevent mortgage fraud.
